I believe the best book on the whole subject of Translvania and Romania is the Rough Guide to Romania which is available from all good bookshops. My friend and colleague Robert Herr (proprietor of Herr Travel ) is one of the region's if not the country's most authoritive local historians in the area and he helped with the Rough Guide book development.
Robert and his team can arrange excellent guided tours of the area ,all of which will be packed with Robert's fun loving sense of humour. However Robert is very serious and knowledgeable about his subject and will give excellent value for money on one of his tours.
Bram Stoker and Hollywood , Trasylvania (from the latin of beyond the forest) is famed abroad as being the home of Dracula, a mountainous place where storms play havoc with villages and werewolves or wolves howl in the woods. This is an accurate viewpoint with regard to the breath taking scenery which is often dramatic (The Turda valley is a good example).
But you should check out the other beautiful towns like Brasov, high in the mountains and of course our own town of Odorheiu Secuiesc with it's links to Vlad the Impaler (Count Dracula). Whether you want a short break or to buy a home here - you are guarenteed a very different holiday in Transylvania.
Check out the Rough Guide to Romania as I believe this has the best description of the area and is truly refelective of the people and the area .
